My tinnitus has been bothering me.  There's pretty much zero chance that I'm going to stop with the loud whistles, coffee and alcohol like the google search results say might help.  I've noticed that when I go out in the wilderness backpacking or hunting that I get the best relief, but obviously i can't do that every day.

Anybody have any tricks or techniques that help?  Or is it just a suck it up buttercup situation?

That's the young guy right?  I've seen him before for a different issue, might be able to get in easier.  last time was probaby 3 months to get an appointment.  I don't want surgery and I don't care for drugs, which is what i got offered last time.

I notice mine flares up when my blood pressure increases.  Ever get mad?  I mean REALLY MAD!  Your ears ring.  That's the blood pressure causing it.  Next time it happens, check your PB.  There are some cheap finger testers on Amazon worth getting.  They may not be all that accurate, but they are repeatable, meaning that you will see a difference when your BP goes up or down.

I use one with my meditation.  I can practice relaxation techniques and lower my BP.  I bet your ringing goes down in the mountains because you are calmer there than at home or work.

So give it a try.  My meditation is mostly breathing exercises.  I focus on slow exhale, slow inhale until I can do a 2 minute exhale. (See, that is S L O W breathing)

My resting BP is usually now 100 over 65.

Yup that's him. His partner Dr. Biteman just retired so he may be the only ENT around.

I have it in both ears from the loud noises in the body shop over the years. It sounds like water running in a pipe. I am also on blood pressure meds that have my bp at 119/79 so that's not it. It's just from repeated exposure without using earplugs or commercial ear muffs. It's annoying as hell. Sorry you are suffering.

Suckitup is really not the answer I want...

It is super annoying which is why I brought it up.  I officiate football and this time of year is pretty bad.  Its just a lot worse than it was last year this time and there are 2 months to go in the season.  Its quiet in my house and I can't hear myself think right now.

As someone whose been afflicted by tinnitus since I was 15/16, I feel your pain.  I've seen specialists, had acupuncture, months of adjustments from chiropractors, etc, all in an effort to relive my tinnitus with zero success.  It's quite persistent and for me is only unnoticeable when I'm in a noisy area or listening to music, it's constant.  Then I found this https://np.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/3l3uri/these_guys_lighting_a_mortar_shell_in_their_garage/cv3474n rolling around the front page one day on Reddit.  Yes, it sounds absolutely ridiculous, but after doing it a dozen or so times, my tinnitus seems like it has temporarily subsided and isn't as loud.  Key word there is temporary, the relief lasts hours at best.  Could vary from person to person but, to some extent, it worked for me.  Hope this helps.

Hey!  Worked for me!  Instantly stopped the ringing.  I usually block it out, but reading this topic today brought it to my conscientiousness and I haven't had time to relax enough to get it to stop.

Hope it works for others and that it lasts for a bit.

This is absolutely amazing.  it only lasts for 10 seconds or so, and I probably look completely spastic,  but it is silence.  glorious, glorious silence.  Please let me buy you a drink.

I wasnt implying to suck it up at all Doug. I know what you are talking about. The folks at Kaiser pretty much say suck it up or get a little noise machine to help me sleep. The drumming thing did work Charles! For about 30 seconds. When I first heard it I thought it was crickets or something in the back yard. Hahahah But the windows were closed and it was winter. Oh boy. Im a Dummy.

Did you hear of possible surgery for this? I would try it.

Oh I know, I'm just bitching after 5 football games and 8 hours of youth soccer this weekend.  I don't know of any surgical option for tinnitus.  But drumming on the back of my head like I'm on the short bus works, and I'm super excited for that.

hahahah being alcoholic I will probably drum on my head for two days then see how that goes. When it started it was just in the left ear. The doc says don't worry it will be in the right one soon. I thought that's not right to say that but a year later there it was. I feel for you. Ive asked myself, " are those the little voices people hear for so long they go nuts?" Wait............ I am an asshole at times. Does that count? Back to drumming now. :smt006 :smt044
