One of my water pipes sprung a leak, of course it was underground about 1 foot deep (Fortunetly). Started noticing a damp area in a walkway (Dirt path)about a month ago, thought it was wife dumping critter water in the path, but she stopped the dumping to see if the ground would start to dry up.  It didn't  which meant I then needed to start removing cement blocks to locate the water source.  Found it, it was our backyard faucet line.  Well during digging up the galvanized  pipe, my shovel hit something solid and gooey in the mud created by the leak.
It was an old ratty fanny pack!  Well this ratty pack, completely saturated with gooey Sandy mud had some weight in it.  I immediately   reconized the shape of the goo encrusted case as that of a knife case!  Couldn't   tell what kind just yet but the knife was still in the case :smt003 this fanny pack probably   hasn't seen light do day since early 80's!
Well, digging had to stop till the knife mystery  was settled.
the knife is Buck 110.  The blade had some hard crust caked onto it, that seemed to chisel off with ease.  I soaked the knife with WD40 overnight.  The blade is still sharp, it does have 2 tiny nicks in the edge about 1.5" from tip, and I'll hone them out soon enough.
:smt003  I used the knife today to slice up some old plastic sheeting for a dump run. I have pictures of the knife be for and after shots just not available   to my tablet yet.  I'll add them to this post when I'm on my laptop
Oh yeah, found yet another small hatchet head in my yard!  Previous   owners must have axe murders :smt002 with all the axe heads I've found over the years
Update:  my tablets 3mp camera sucks! Just took the attached shots with it.  Anyhow, here's the knife!

Such a classic knife. This is the one called the "hunter" I believe, as opposed to the slightly smaller "ranger".

Very interesting find!

I found and printed the symbol map for the Buck 110, and I'll be checking my knife for its symbol or dots. 1974 to 1980 it'll have 1 dot either side of the model #
1980 will have 2 dots on the right side of the model # 81- 86 will have 2 dots either side of the model #  Then there are 26 characters or symbols used for each year from 86- 2010
 I'll find out tonight!
