Hello everyone. Just found out about the forum and decided to join up so I can read about the exploits of like minded folks. I've been fishing on and off since I was a kid. Growing up so close to the mokelumne river and the delta it's kind of hard not to! A few years ago I acquired a Costco kayak and it didn't take long for my to start modifying it for fishing. Mostly I would float the Mokelumne from the hatchery, sometimes as far as Lodi lake, drifting worms and throwing spinners for rainbows. This spring my buddy and I  have been going out in the delta and catching tons of large and smallmouth bass. Needless to say, the Costco barge wasn't quite cutting it. I did manage to pull some nice fish, but the comfortability level was low. I slid the boat to A buddy and went to see Dan at headwaters in lodi.
Now I am sitting pretty in a Feelfree Moken 12.5, and couldn't be happier. I've only had it for a few months and have rigged it up with a fish finder, the Uni-bar dashboard, anchor trolly extra rod holders, a soft sided fish bag ( works great for sandwiches and beverages), and have a trolling motor setup for it. Anyway... great forum and great stories. Some I'd like to emulate, some learn from so I don't make the same mistakes. Anyone in the area, hit me up if you are wanting to go out, I'm usually on the water at least once a week chasing bass around Walnut Grove.

Thanks, and happy fishing!

Hi Neighbor,

Welcome to the forum. I usually launch from Ko-Ket Resort on low wind days and Wimpy's or Lodi Lake on windy days. I should be launching tomorrow morning around 7:30 AM at Ko-Ket. You are welcome to join me.

Gkling,
No worries about the thread jack. I can see the fire from my porch. Big deal up there.  We have friends that lost homes.

Dave,
Sorry I missed you, I went in today at hogback and rod the tide out and back. Beautiful day. Hot, but awesome. Stripers are coming!  :smt001

I haven't been to Hogback for a month. I wasn't having as much luck at Hogback as I am at Ko-Ket. On both last Saturday and Monday, I had a sea lion hanging around my kayak at Ko-Ket. Hopefully, that means there is going to be good fishing soon! I can't wait for the stripers!

I went all the way out to the channel, and caught a shaker on an anchovie at anchor at the point below the harbor. Worked the grassy flat behind me at the same time and caught a nice smallmouth. On the drift back, I came up on a pack of 12-14 inch stripers feeding. So cool, they were boiling up all around me. The day ended up with 6 shakers and the smallmouth. Probably could have done better on the small mouth if I worked the banks, but I was on the striper hunt. I'll swing out to ko-ket next thursday, if I can.

Thanks for your concern, this fire really took off and has caught our community by surprise.

Welcome, and I do appreciate you asking.

DG-
The Costco boat was the single sit in model. Banana yellow. The new ones are lime green. It was ok. It has a concave bottom, so it was heat for getting over snags and logs, but there is no access to the stern unless you remove the hatch and dry bag. The seat is thin and uncomfortable.  It handles ok and is stable, but for the $ it would have been better to buy a nice used boat.

As far as the fire goes, it's now 32,000 acres and growing. If anyone needs anything, hit me up. I'm just down the hill.
