The hot bite ended.   :smt010

Now I can give up all the details, but I'm too burnt right now.

The condensed version:

- the bite the past few days was only few hundred yards from the launch!
- fish were coming at 5 to 10 PULLS on baitballs!
- bites were fast and furious (3 limits in 3 days...)
- today started out strong with a dozen or more of us there to get a kayak salmon.
- One of us had one on and to the boat very early - maybe a silver - it got hopes up for the bite still being strong.
- Bait wasn't showing heavy like it had been, and the fish weren't there either.
- After a few hours trying what had been hot for three days running, we could hear the powerboats getting some a mile south, so quite a few of us ran down there and put the troll gear out.
- Bite basically went dead...
- Me and client headed inshore and back toward launch.
- Client got a salmon - 24".
- Client got another one - 8 pound silver released.
- Hopes were up again, and bait around inshore rocks on the way back to launch held much potential.
- Only other kayak king was Andrew / AndrewMVB, that I know of.

Tomorrow is another day, and limits are the plan.   :smt001

The bite at the Cove was null too.  Only one of the local commies did alright.  There were only 2 or 3 carcasses in the fish station.  Still tons of chovies there though..  Trolling size too.

WTG, Michael!  Nice too meet you OTW today.   :smt001

OK, it came on strong again today!  After five days straight at Trinidad where I was able to more than double my salmon count for the year, I have a lagoon trout trip tomorrow with a couple and their small kids.  It'll be a nice change of pace, but I look forward to getting back on the water at Trinidad soon.

Today my guests included tournament legend and all around super cool friend, Terry S. / Jacks, Bob Sponseller and new kid, Matt Guthrie of Headwaters in Lodi.  We got on a glassy ocean just before 730 and after yesterday's slow bite I was ready to give them the full harbor tour and go offshore for rocks and lings if necessary.  It wasn't necessary.   :smt003

Strong bite right out the gate where Wizz swooped in to bag an early limit including a fat 20, then the guys and I picked away for hours on a two acre baitball baitMASS where we wrangled with smoothhounds that ate several leaders, lings, blacks, coho and some hard earned kings.  After several hours of fishing at the moorings(!) everyone was ready for some paddling and a harbor tour, so we headed east toward Camel Rock.  15 minutes later I'm just saying "there's not much bait out here" to Matt when we got a double hookup!  We chased a nice tight baitball for a couple hours and scored a few fish including a super fat coho that Matt tail-hooked and it gave him a hell of a sleigh ride before he carefully released it after a quick pic.  We wrapped it up at 8 hours OTW, celebrated the great day, and we went our separate ways - me to prep for tomorrow's trout trip and the guys were set to recharge with food and sleep before another session tomorrow.

Had a fantastic time.  Honored to show the guys around one of the most magically beautiful bays on the coast.  Stoked for the lake-like ocean.  Thankful for the opportunities I've worked hard to cultivate.

If you want a shot at this please get in touch.  Splitting the trip cost with others is a consideration worth making.

I didn't get launched till after seeing Mats nice limit.  It was nice be 5 minutes from the launch.  I went back and got my sabiki and castnet since there was lots of anchovies.  I didn't have luck with my beat up castnet cause the schools were too deep which is opposite of Shelter Cove where I would get a net full in 1 cast.  I sabikied  and fished with live ones that worked best, but the ones I had from Shelter Cove the day before worked great too. I used a 6oz banana weight since the fishing depth was less than 40ft.  I didn't go home with a salmon, but it was fun to get so much action.  I'm not sure why they kept coming off so quick, but I had 13 or more salmon takedowns plus some scratches.  I did catch and release a strong silver that didn't come in easy.  It was rediculous how I would get hammered and pick up the rod and then quickly it was gone or I got to reel on it for a second and feel big head shakes till the hook came out.  I also had a shark either thresher or salmon shark make my reel scream for 10 seconds or so then stole my hooks.  Tomorrow will be redemption day.  Either way it's still a blast.  I can't wait to put some of my chovies to work on albacore soon.  I'll be back at it tomorrow.

Thanks Eric for the great time on the water.  Your expertise and fishing knowledge is exceptional.  Today the salmon bite for me was strong, but, landing those little buggers was the hard part.  I lost my first 4 hook ups, with 2 of them right next to my board.  I changed hooks and then landed the next 2.  I had an early limit and so I switched over to a barbless iron to rockfish and hang with the fellas.  I did have one salmon hook up on the iron.  Overall a great day and a great time on the water.

I highly recommend Loleta Eric's guide service.

Went out again today at 6:30.  Met wizz the 20 pound slayer on the beach, his electronics were not working so we headed out together.  Seeing no bait in close we headed out toward the fleet.  A short time later Matt lands a 25-26" salmon.  Matt drops backdown and hooks up right away with another salmon and this one is close to 20 pounds.  At 9:20 Matt is heading back in.

Rob shows up just as Matt starts heading in.  An hour later I get my first hook up and land a 23" salmon.  On the way back in I fill out my limit with a 27" salmon.
