Thanks for hooking me up.

I wonder what's on tap for '07 - I'd vote for a saltwater species division.   :smt003

Congrats Joel and everyone else.  Impressive fish in all categories; 27" RF, 30" trout, all the sturgeons...

Based on how the scores for each species came out, I would say its pretty much perfect.  You can always shoot for big fish in each category, or use the contest to motivate you out of your norm and try some new fisheries.

Ditto what Sean said

Congratulations Joel and great job Everybody.

Great Job putting it together Bill. I think it worked out very well. I hope it stays the same.

When is the deadline to post fish? And when is the sign up for 07 ?

Bonus  points for artifical lures and C&R?

I really enjoyed the derby this year as well.  It motivated me to go out of my norm to fish for species I hadn't targeted before or in a long time.

The only thing I think we should consider adding is a "wildcard" category... so that oddball fish such as threshers or WSB, etc. can provide some bonus points.

Congrats to Mooch and Freddie on the two high scores... very impressive.

Thanks all!  :smt006

I'd like to thank everyone who participated and to Bill and the rest of the guys involved with organizing this contest :smt023

Like Stuart had stated before - I had the advantage for simply being able to fish more days than anyone else (a life style of my choice :smt002) BUT, seeing Fred taking a close second place simply says what one can do when motivated enough. I've known Fred since I've picked up the sport of kayak fishing and I can truly say that this guy is a "Killer"  :fishing2 (and a savage) :smt002 He does not get to fish as much as I do, but he can surely find 'em and fill his stinger when need be. Erik Kunz is another a guy that comes to mind when it comes to consistency - especially when it comes to sturgeon fishing. His ability to "sit still" for HOURS with his rod at hand is simply "patience" at it's true form  :worship

I've truly enjoyed 2006 - simply becuause of the old and new friends that I got to share fishing time with  :smt008 I hope 2007 will bring us "more" fishing time together. I hope we can all continue doing more "get togethers" during the weekends. You just can't beat spending a weekend with people who love fishing from kayaks AND more importantly, simply enjoy each others company :party

Also, 2007 will be the year that I will actually be more involved with free diving & spear fishing  :snorkel :smt063 I've made contact with a few fellas from the "Kayak Diving and spearfish" section and I'm looking forward to learning something new (every year, I try to make an effort of learning something new).
So, when rockfish season begins, don't be surprised if you find yourself reeling in a "heavy" lingcod....only to find out that the "mooch" is "hitch-hiking"
 :smt077

I'd also want to thank Karen and Mark from Hook1 for all the support that they had given me. I'm honored to represent your business :smt008 THANK YOU  :salut:

The results are impressive - way to go, Mooch and Savage and all else who participated.  I think the format of the derby was cool, but I'm not interested in trying new fisheries right now, so I still hope for some derby opportunities this year for those of us who are addicted to the salt and swells...   :smt001

I'll take this opportunity (since I started this post  :smt004) to post my annual tallies, as I just compiled my journal notes for '06, and it's not really worthy of a "fishing report":

11 trips fishing from the rocks - kept 13 including an 11# cabezone; released 15.
8 trips yak fishing for salmon - kept 4 legals including the 38#'er, released one legal and several shakers.  This year I cruise with a rubber net.
17 trips yak fishing for rockfish - kept 38 including a 23#+ ling, released 89 including several legal lings.
5 trips salmon fishing on powerboats - kept 4 kings up to 20# and ate 3 skunks.
9 of 13 abs pulled with the aid of the yak - 1 10"er this year.

Yes, I am a cocky-ass, braggart of a guy, but it's because I want to spread a conscientious ethic and to go fishing with people!  Here's the most telling stat:  30 of 38 trips yak-fishing and abbing were solo.  The 8 trips that I had company were shared with 10 different people - no more than 2 at a time and only 2 people twice:  Brandi Easter and Dave White.

I love fishing off my yak, hiking the beach, and just being in and around the ocean.  Come fish with me!   :smt001

Congrats Mooch!!
You and Fred both had a HELL of a year!!!!!!

Unfortunately for me, I haven't sit in a kayak since Paddlefest (9/30) :smt010

But in 2007, aside from losing a few lbs, I hope to hit the lakes more often and get my girls hooked on kayak fishing.  I just need to wait for some warmer weather.

Indeed.  If the fame of winning attracts the ladies and Mooch get a GF Freddie should win next year easily.  :smt003 :smt003

Way to go Mooch!

You were up against a tough field of fine anglers for sure.

Congratulation to all who placed in any of the categories.  You guys caught some great fish.
