The rails alone don't catch when I have practice self rescue.

Have you done this while wearing a wet suit?
My concern is it might tear the suit.

May I add that I know someone here who scratched his SUV with the Gear Tracs while loading his kayak.

Here's my FF mount with Scotty mounts. It has plenty of "settings".

That's why I put mine in the recessed areas.

Yup..  I put a few scratches and dents on my roof due to the gt90 rails.  But I lay my kayak upside down on oem roof rack on my 4runner.   I did not have issues with rails on my tarpon 120, because it was flush.

The rails on the hobie gets caught fairly easily, due to sharp points and edge.  If I hae not drilled in the gunwales. I would just get flush mounts.   Plastics slide over paint, hard aluminum and metal parts don't.

did you guys go with 1 inch or 1.5 inch ram mount in the sail location? I'm looking at picking up a lowrance elite 5. Does the lowrance come with a mount to clip into the ram or do I purchase that seperately?

Thanks for any input :)

great thanks. So either the 1 inch or 1.5 inch would work with that mount.

I've got a Hobie sail mast mount adapter with 1.5" ram ball.

PM me your address and I'll mail it to you.
