I was flyfishing from the bank for Salmon on a run up above the Barge Hole a couple of years ago and cussing the power boats racing by.  A strange thing happened.  My best bites occurred right after the PB's went by.  I hooked a bunch and landed a few on my 12 wt rod that day.
Maybe the noise moved them out of their deeper slots to the edges I could fish with my gear.

I do that a lot, try to throw right behind the boats or actually throw in front and let the boats go over my line. I have caught many trout that way. Believe you are correct fish are moving away from the shadow and noise as the boats go over them, especially where water is shallow. I do see some boats that know the trick, they will keep their lines out as the move up stream but vast majority of them pull the lines rev up the motor head up stream and then throw back in for the drift downstream. They miss some good fishing, could be throwing lures out to the shallows while they are moving upstream.

Thanks for the report Bryan, I'd like to get down there and fish with you but WORK, and gearing up for Tahoe and Trinidad have kept me busy. Till then tight lines.....

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.
