My shore set-up is all I have to offer.Same as Ken,but I use a very small circle hook and "shape" the PB in a "tear drop" from that covers the hook.I thought of this durring MANY of HOURS SITTING,WAITING for a trout to swim by my little offering.
Theory: It floats off the bottom and the teardrop(grubb/larve)looking thing, points downward and may be easier to swallow(less nibbles). :smt011

Ohh...the things you come up with when sitting and waiting. :smt012

Happy Huntin and post them pics!

Now your going to get Ken started on his no circle hooks thing...

I use the the same rig as Ken but use orange or green powerbait with glitter and 14 trebles.

probably the key to mbyakker's issue is the split shot, the weight needs to be a sliding arrangement so the trout doesn't feel any weight.

they will feel the splitshot I am guessing.

I have never even tried powerbait, well, I did once in colorado with my brother, he caught a nice 16"er, I got nothing. I have some, but I was hoping to use it in some wacky trolling arrangment, like inside a tiny hoochie or tube bait or something like that.

Berkley sells some spinners with a hollow body that is meant to hold powerbait....never tried them myself though.

John is right.  If you use a split shot.  I would set the hook as soon as the trout starts to pull.

Also. if you tie a rubber band on the fore grip of your pole.  You can tuck a little line under this and still have the reel in freespool.  The trout will pull it from under the rubber band and then let it run for a while.  I usually feed it line by hand.  This method helps when it is windy and the line is being pulled off the reel by the current or waves.

Can also use this rubber band will live bait (minnow, bullhead, bloodworms and etc.)  Of coruse without the treble hook.

The lake is down around 30ft.  The end of the swim area is where the lake starts now.  There is no river and I think this is why it is not too muddy, yet.  The first two lanes of the boat ramp can not be used.  It is the lowest I have every seen it.
