Some of us "old guys" still have land line phones and the number of unwanted junk phone calls is just out of control.  My phones have a "call block" feature that can block a couple hundred numbers but it seems that these junk callers just switch to another outgoing line when they have been blocked.  The other day I discovered nomorobo.com.  I don't think it's compatible with all phones but I have Comcast IP phone service and fortunately for me it's compatible.  I costs nothing and takes only a couple of minutes to configure its use on the Comcast web site.  Nonmorobo identifies the calls as being "Robo" and stops them after a single ring.  We have gone from getting a few junk calls a day to none on most days and occasionally one or two but they are always intercepted after the single ring.  None of our wanted calls have been blocked or interfered with.  If junk calls are a problem for you, get nomorobo for free and they will go away.

Too bad.  It's a great solution.  We switched from ATT a few years ago because they were never able to get the static off of our line.  Their DSL internet product was really slow and unreliable too.  I signed a 2 year deal with Comcast with no rate changes for the life of the contract.  I recently renewed for 2 more years at the same rate.  We get TV, internet and land line services from Comcast.  I know a lot of people don't like Comcast but it has been flawless for us.

I only keep the land line for emergency purposes. Otherwise, I would have removed the line long ago. Still tempted, however.

For years I've been trying to convince my wife that we should ditch the land line. But, she insists we keep for emergencies. I'm sure that way less than 5% of the calls we get on the land line are non-junk. Unfortunately, we've got Verizon and it's not on the Nomorobo list...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I have been thinking of getting another blocking system the name escapes me at the moment. But I can tell you how it worked. Everytime I answered the phone it put out short beep. Like about a second and a half. wasn't bad to get used to. Why it worked was that it made auto dialers think they called a computer. Removing your number from their list on auto calls. I had it for years. and never got any of those calls. After it broke It was about two to three years until I started getting those calls again. I think they sell them at Radio Shack or on line. I think they are about 70.00.
