How often do you guys replace PowerPro. I mostly dive these days, so I fish about a dozen times a year, my point being that my line doesn't see much use. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Andrew

I'm going 2 years on my braid. I keep my rods indoor so the outside elements don't wear the braid down as quick. My buddy stored his rods in a covered slip and after one year it wrecked havoc on his braid. Never seen anyone break off so many sturgeon on a hook set. We both have 65# power pro. So keeping rods indoors gives u more life out your fishing line.

Thanks. I just reversed the PowerPro on 2 of my reels, but will probably end up replacing it with brand new line as it's all about 3 years old.

I dont place a lifespan on braid like i do mono.  I have some that is like 10 years old.  I will strip some off if it looks worn, and the only time i replace is when whatevere is left is getting too short on the reel.

No need to replace, reuse! I use both ends of my braid, it lasts forever.
Ok sounds funny but this is what you'll need.
- 3 reels similar size spools
- 10 minutes of free time
- Cheap Mono line same #

Spool the braid from reel #1 onto reel #2. Now spool the braid from reel #2 onto reel #3. Now connect some backing (mono) to braid and fill up until reel #3 is full (to your liking). Now spool the backing and braid from reel #3 back onto reel #1 (original reel). Wahla, fresh braid with backing. Go fish!

I had some 4 year old Power Pro 50 lb. braid on my old TLD reel and it broke off multiple times recently.  I suppose I should have reversed it but I stripped it off and threw it away.  I went to Guns Fishing and Other Stuff in Dublin and bought P-Line 50 lb, braid for $.05 a yard.  The guy said it was a new product and they got a great deal and were passing it along.  I bought 440 yards and they spooled it on my reel for $22.00.  For $.05 a yard it just wasn't worth the time and effort to reverse it.  I don't know if they still have that deal.  I bought it last week.  My reels are stored inside but the line was just rotted.   Probably just the first few yards but now I have new braid for just a few bucks.

I wonder what the salt crystals do to the braid, will they act like a cutting agent when captive in the braid? Rinsing can get to the few outer wraps but what about the stuff that is 100' in the reel? Just thinking out loud so to speak.

i fish alot in the salt.....my40lb PP has lasted over 4 seaons. I rinse/dries in shade and repeat. At the start of each season, i'd strip 100 ft off and good to go for another season.

yeah, my braid lasts until there is too little left to hold a seabass run :smt005

I rinse it & actually do wash it once a year. I have an old empty line spool that I drilled a bunch of holes in & mounted to a long carriage bolt. Chuck the bolt into a drill driver & pull the braid off onto the perforated spool, then soak that in water for a day. This also lets you check the reel spool for any corrosion and address it if found. This idea is from tuna anglers.
to "flip" the line you'd need another empty reel or spool to wind it back before putting it back on the reel you choose.
I have some braid that like FHs, is 4 seasons old.

Can usually see the braid getting "fuzzy" and then I strip off like 100ft and keep going until it's no longer fuzzy.  Still have enough left to fish with?  Then you are G2G!  :smt003

the soaking reads like a few more years/yards could be added/saved

I totally agree with Allen.  It lasts a long time.
I've been using it for around 10 years, and I haven't replaced it yet on ANY of my reels, yet.  I just cut a little off the end if its frayed.

Funny you mention it, as re-spooling is on my "to do" list.

Wingshooter is on the money, but some of my reels have power pro going on 6+ years without reversing...  The saltwater reels seem to need more attention and last about 4 years before relining backwards...
