Hi Everyone,

Been lurking for a bit and wanted to introduce myself, as well as be able to use the search function  :smt005

I grew up in California and have fond memories of a lot of party boat trips for rock fish- I'm actually going out on one with my dad at the end of this month.  My wife and I are going camping at Ocean Cove July 23-26 and I would like to take a stab at kayak fishing there.  After combing these boards for advice, I've managed to cobble together a kayak, PFD, whistle, strobe, compass, 3mm wetsuit, gear tethers, etc.  I've done some kayaking, but this will be my first time kayak fishing, and I'd love to hook up with some experienced members of NCKA in Ocean Cove.  I'm comfortable in the ocean and have done a good deal of SCUBA diving all over the California coast.  Unfortunately, I don't have any friends with this hobby, and I don't feel comfortable going alone.  (Even if I did, my wife wouldn't let me.  She's been watching Shark Week on tv and is convinced the waters are infested with great white sharks.)  Damn you, Discovery Channel!

Anyway, I think she'll be ok with it if I can find a couple of folks to tag along with- and I'd love to make some new friends.   :smt006

I'll make sure to post in the appropriate forum once it's unlocked for me.

My real name is Aaron, and here is a pic of my family:

+1. Seriously!

Target surface kelp - extended points and small secluded islands. Welcome, good luck and hope to see you on the water sometime.

Thanks so much, guys!  Great group of people here.  I ordered a marine radio this morning!  Also appreciate the tips on where to look for fish, Mike.  Still praying I hear from a NCKA member who will be at Ocean Cove that weekend!

This community is awesome and has already helped me out so much.  I promise that when I'm a weathered veteran, I'll pay it forward.   :smt002

Welcome Aaron.  I would yak with you, as I live near Moss Landing, but I still need to learn from the weathered veterans on this site before venturing out into "shark infested waters" as my wife puts it.  Yes, she also watched shark week, but I reminded her that I have plenty of life insurance for myself.  funny thing is, now she WANT'S me to buy a kayak.  hmmmm.   :?
