I thought you guys up here might appreciate that us SOCAL had to deal with some surf for a once!!  :smt003 :smt003

A few of us, probably against our better judgement decided to go surfing on our kayaks... I brought two WS Kaos surf kayaks, Brad brought his Mini X, Adi on the Malibu eXtreme, Pat on his X Factor... Ski showed up just to be entertained...

Some pics....

Adi "Perfect Storm"

Tourist launching...

Brad about to pearl...

Brad in front of a barrel...

I am heading out, these surf kayaks handled fairly well in the surf...

A surf shot, by the way, we surfed right in front of the launch...

Three amigos...

Finally, the Madman!!  :D  If this doesn't sell the Mini X, I don't know what will!!

Some video... I got into a couple nice barrels...

Here is one of the guys who went out to fishing that day... DaveH posted this.... You can barely make out a yellow kayak, and fishing rod..

I'd be up to try some kayak surfing @ Del Monte Beach some time this winter.
Fishing is cool

Thanks guys, that NORCAL pic looks CRAZY!!!!!!

I was actually using thigh straps on the blue kayak in the video... I was able to dig my edge, and ride down the wave to get barrels.  I couldnt talk Brad in the yellow Kaos to use the thigh straps... It can be a little scary starting out, you feel trapped...  But you have waaaay more control of the kayak... One thing I noticed, when I got barrel, I came out of the straps easily....

That looks a lot more fun without rods and gear.  Not to mention warmer water as suggested by Tote.

You call that surf?

Not compared to the stuff I have seen in baja, but for what we lack for in surf, we make up for in fish....

Hey Chris - how about writing an article on the basics of yellow tail fishing from a kayak  (with pics would be nice) :smt002  I'm sure Bill will spot you an NCKA hoodie sweater for it :smt002

I'll defintely make a trip to So Cal next year :smt004
