Going tomorrow, was wondering if anyone else will be there?  Sara used to go as a kid and wants to take Quinn there for his first time.  I've never been to that one, but did go to the Santa Clara County fair grounds many times as a kid.  Any attractions people recommend seeing, or tips on what to do while we are there?

Sounds like Fun! Last Fair I attended was five years ago at the San Diego County Fair. That fair is huge and has lots of fun.
Let us know how it goes. I might have to check it out before it ends :smt001

Missed this year's but went last year.  The freestyle Moto guys put on a good show.  I also suggest the 3' corn dog and fried pickles for a nutritional lunch.   And if you're into teaching kids the finer points of the  gambling hustle, play the ponies :)

Omar and I went to the San Mateo County fair a few weeks ago and the pig races were the place to be.

I only go the fairs for the livestock auction. Unfortunately, the Alameda fair auction does not include beef on the hoof.

I think the alameda county fair is only OK.  Wasn't too impressed last year.

The Mutton Bustin' kids rodeo is a must-see at the alameda fair.

Found out the auction does include beef. So my bidding partners may get my freezer filled again after all.

I'd be in for a small fraction.

I usually get one side and my partners each get a quarter side. Someone we both know (I will let him speak up) wants to get a pig. I would not mind getting half, or even a quarter. Tastes better than store bought.

I'm often asked why I pay so much money for hamburger but people always forget  the better cuts you get for the money, a tax writeoff, and helping future farmers out.

Just have to agree to a bid max and stay with it. Sometimes animals are bid at outrageous prices (either by parents, grandparents, or companies). Saw some great deals on pigs this year for $2.25/lb.  :smt001 The highest paid was $9.50/lb.   :smt009

You choose from a list of available butchers. Cut'n'wrap is extra expense. Last year, we lost out on bidding for a cow but put in a a silent bid for a specially raised animal. Turned out cut'n'wrap was included in the price as well as delivery to the fairgrounds for pickup...otherwise, I would have had to drive all the way to Freedom for pickup (a drive I didn't care for).
