Just wait for him to post when he buys one, then make half price offer three days later!

I hate to admit it in public but I bought a Walmart fishing kayak for my first kayak. It looked cool so I purchased it took it out a few times and off loaded it on Craigslist for a 100 bucks lost 350 cause I paid 450 for it. One issue was it leaked but the big issues was I took it out on a warmer day and cause the plastic is so thin on those I started sinking in the seat cause the plastic was bending, basically collapsing the kayak in on itself. Also ripped the plastic the rope handle on the bow was tied to.
These guys are right way better off getting a quality used one I went from a Walmart kayak to a older Hobie outback I got on Craigslist way happier wish I knew better then. Hope this helps.

Adventure will hook you up and give you a nice discount too. Tell them NCKA sent you. Also mention RacinRob (Rob) from Wilderness Systems or Ravensblack ( Craig ) from Ocean Kayak. Tell them you want the better than NCKA deal! If I was not leaving in the morning for a week I would let you use my Wilderness Tarpon 160, 140, 120, Ride 135, Ride 115,  or Thresher to demo. I will be back after the 21st if you want to try any of those out at Folsom or Natoma.

PS. Look closely at the Tapon 140. Good all around kayak for the ocean, bay, rivers. I paddle the 160 mainly.

When you ask for opinions, you have to remind yourself that they are like a**holes.  Everyone has them and they all stink!  :smt044

+1.

I bought my first kayak online from LL Bean.  :smt005 :smt044

But it was made by a well known company (Ocean Kayak) and even though it was only like 9 feet long I had some amazing ocean adventures on her....but I also learned VERY quickly that it did NOT have all the features I wanted/needed to be safe and successful in more challenging conditions....

I still have her and use her as a loaner yak and for my daughters to play on, but realistically if I had listened to the advice and guidance of guys on here I would have started out with a longer, more ocean worthy yak with internal storage...

Honestly...99.99% of the guys on this site are just trying to be helpful, and share what they have learned through trial and error(s)...up to you what you wanna do though!!

Buy what you want, have fun, be safe, post pics, and let us know how it goes!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

What can & has happened to some members is the rush to go buy their first kayak, based on color, size, price, graphics, etc... & then they find out it was totally the wrong yak for their needs, get frustrated, loose big money on the resell, etc. and end up hating the sport.  I'v now owned 7 different kayak models now and always on the lookout for something new.  There is a kayak out there for virtually any/every need ... just need to find your need.
