I've also been pondering scrapping the Hobie seat and installing something else entirely ... I really like the Surf to Summit seat I've got for my Scrambler, but it was definitely pricey. I think those two you posted are actually knockoffs of the Surf to Summit GTS I'm referring to.

I'm just worried that the seat might slide around a lot since it wouldn't be attached with pegs at the bottom...

With a sharp knife, you can install the pegs into any seat. In fact, I don't like the standard Hobie seat back---it digs into my upper back. I tried a few other seats, and IMHO, the pegs are necessary, or you'll lose power. However, none of the seats I tried worked very well. I'm thinking that when pedaling, I put more pressure on the upper back area than most people. Whatever the reason, all of the non-Hobie seats flexed way too much up top for my tastes. I ended up using the Hobie seat, but added a PVC thing to support the back, so I don't need to tighten the side straps (hard to describe, but actually a really simple idea...).
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Hey! I know that guy!

Ya... It's been about a year since I posted up asking about replacement seats, and I still haven't done anything about it. All that's happened since then is my stock seat has gotten even crappier as the foam padding compacts and shifts around...

The yakpad idea sounds intriguing. Even if it isn't perfect, I'm only out about $35... Does it really stay put while you're pedaling?

I definitely prefer the idea of something that can't spring a leak, and I'm not big on the turkey hunting seat idea (COG is shifted up and back).

I got my yak used so im not sure how comthy the seat is new.. However mines does bunch up. My butt gets numb in a couple hours.   I hope to test the seat a bit this weekend. Maybe a quick trip to HMB or ARW and test my luck with halibut.   Fom the feel of the seat it is pretty well built.  The pad itself is about 3/4" thick.  It has what seems to be a nonslip bottom surface. The pad is kind of firm though but I will find out soon enough. I got the bottom section only and not the back. I feel the backrest on the original seat is still fairly cushy.   Yakpads can do better with marketing and provide detailed pictures and of the seat. From researching it, the company itself does not provide much info on its product.  It be a good idea to market the non skid a bit more with pictures.

I went this rout because I dont like bulk in the yak, or anything that would interfere. Im not looking for a lazyboy but something that prevents numbing. Which equates to less time on the water.

When I used my older Hobie seat, the Yak Pad is a must have.  I always kept it attached to the seat so I never left home without it.  On my 2012 AI when the seat gets wet its like sitting to wet towel.  The YakPad greatly improves comfort.  It comes with a cord that secures it in place and doesn't move around.  Mine is 5 years old and is still in good shape.

The 2015 Hobie seat is a great improvement. No more extra padding needed for me.  My butt was on it for over 7 hours last Sunday. :smt003

Check out surf to summit. I put one on my outback. I love it. Lots of cushion and a high back. I can fish all day now and my back and butt does not hurt a bit when I get done fishing

I have tailbone issues so even my nice wilderness seat hurts. I have been using a wheelchair gel-foam pad with great success. This one has more gel than foam and is only 2 inches tall. It takes a little getting used to the extra height but it works well for me. They wear out after about a year for me so far.

I use one of those kneeling pads for gardening under my butt and one behind the seat to pad between the tailbone/seat and the hard plastic ridge that is super uncomfortable on the backside :smt009

Personally, I think the stock Hobie seat suck. The plastic pins that are designed to integrate with the indentations underneath the seat create pressure points and the bottom of the seat is not wide enough, I have modified a Surf to Summit GTS Elite and it works much better, but still need the additional gardening pads to get me through the 4-6 hours on the water.

I have the exact same problem with the pins becoming a pressure point. Any chance you could snap me a pic or two showing how you modified the GTS Elite?
