AWESOME!!!!  What kind of gaff is that, super cool!
Yes, as the video that Allen so graciously shared  :smt003 , the gaff was awesome, until I lost a fish I had already killed off of it. The clip on the gaff just wasn't as sturdy as it needed to be. It was also my fault for not securing the fish when I had a chance. However, if the gaff clip didn't fail I wouldn't have had the chance for the upgrade of about 30 lbs and a damn funny video.  :smt003

Hah Jeff.  We're crossing in the internet.  When I saw you post it, I removed my post.

WTF!!!

Jeff, I'm not putting the video up again.   You do it!  I put it up twice and took it down twice.  And you did the same!  Nice!

Wow that was great! How about some stats or info?
Yes! That fish was my second fish of the day. I lost the first one at the boat because I didn't secure it quickly enough. This fish ended up somewhere in the 70 to 80 lb range. Caught it in about 130 feet. All of the fish from that day were caught one right after another in the same spot. Marks fish was the big one of the day and was probably pushing 90 lbs.

That's another reason to use the 2 bait 16/0 circle hook rig.  You get a halibut to bite aND leave it hanging because the chickens and smaller halibut usually show first then the bigger ones show.  It's not uncommon  to have 2 halibut on one rig.

You're welcome all, thanks for watching!

Yes, we were up in Neah Bay, WA but we launched and fished off the beach on the ocean side. And forgive me if I don't feel like sharing what specific bait we were using. It seemed to work a bit too well to be shared on a public forum. :smt003
Everything else was pretty standard. I used a mooching style rig with 9/0 J hooks and 150lb test line. 50 lb mainline, 12 oz weight on a dropper line. Lexa 300 reel and a Saltiga G Jigging rod. That setup made each fight less than about 7 min.
