Sorry guys got locked out of previous post. My Bad!
Mol- I think that this can be a very productive area once some key area's are explored. Duane and I stopped today at pylon 8 south of the trestle tracks. Both Duane and I have witnessed  these beauties come completely out of the water in this area. I'll let Duane chime in about his encounter during this hunt. I know that they are caught frequently from shore however, I do not think anyone has landed a legal sturgeon  from a kayak. Where no man has gone before :}

Ken- Dumbarton Bridge is correct. Thanks corrected.

Pic 1 This is the exit off of Hwy 82 that you take to get to the Park entrance which is to the south. EBRP Don Edwards. then follow the road that will take you to the frontage road adjacent to the fwy.
Pic 2 Parking area just under the Dunbarton.
Pic 3 There is a small fine rock beach that you launch from and head  parallel between the two structures.
Pic 4 Structures- Dunbarton to right and old bridge now fishing pier to left.
Pic 5 Opposite side of the pier facing the the hwy and south.
Pic 6-7 Duane heading towards our target the Train Trestle Bridge. About one mile south of our launch.
Pic 8 Middle of channel where depth is approx. 50' you start in 3' of water.
Pic 9-10 Duane under the Trestle south side
Pic 11 Shot of moving current which is one big reason for a quick release system.
Pic 12-13 Reset on the north side of the bridge. Note the placement of Duane's buoy
Pic. 65-69 Duane hooks up to a bat ray and his insuring sleigh ride.
Pic 70-71 My first Leopard shark. Caught three Leopards(not Tigers) and two small bat rays no pictures camera battery went dead.

Duane can chime in with his account. Enjoyed the company and one shot I which I had gotten is of you layed all the wake back mouth open and just snoozing in the sun.

Thanks for the report.

You have to be the first person to shrink the filesize to under 200K.  WOW!!!
There was no waiting period for the pic to download.
Most people say screw-it and post a pic that is about a gig in size.
Keep up the good work.
Your persistence will pay off soon.

Love seeing flat water and sturgeon possibilities in the same shot.
I can't believe they swung the bridge for you though.  :smt002

Nice report, I've gotta add a couple things about dumbarton that I know about and I'm not sure if you guys have mentioned it in previous posts.

1)  Make sure of the tides for when your goin.  A minus tide or a low of 1.0 and you will definately have mud to contend with.  If this is gonna happen, bring wheels and there are a few spots south where you can launch and land where the water enters into the marshes.

2) Beware 'Bad Boy Barry', he is the parks ranger for this area and he is a real hard ass.  He will ticket you for:
      a. spittin sunflower seeds on the ground
      b. going 1 mph over the posted speed limit, the entire length of the road is 2.5 miles at like 25 mph.
      c. not carrying a net on your small fishing vessel.  ???
      d. wearing anything with oakland raiders patch on it.

3)Beware of high winds, they do occur here frequently.

4) Park Gates close at 600pm in the winter time.  The ranger will drive through at 540 and rush you out.  If he doesn't see you, he will lock the gate.

One of my favorite piers, havn't fished it from my kayak more than a couple times.  This spot is usually productive year round.  Real good chances for seven gill also.  jtf..

JTF,
Thanks for the heads up on the minus tide. This last trip (minus tide) when Duane and I landed the beach extended itself a good ten feet as we were loading our boats. We both commented about that and Duane mentioned that we would had to have landed a little to the east but still very doable.Nice thing about the beach there is it is like a fine gravel and not to muddy.
I think I know about the marsh area launch which is a free launch on Thornton Blvd. only draw back is that it is a long paddle. Duane googled it and said it is about a 5 mile paddle. But I will explore more of this area and see if we can access it in the Fremont or other sections in Newark.
By the way, I still have those items for you from Brian. We need to hook up so you can get those on your vehicle. Frank
PS I'm cool I follow the 49ers.....
