Picked this guy up the other day, and wasn't sure if it was a cow cod or canary.
What ever it is it was too orange and stripy for me and back home she went.
Nice fight in her though...
Can anyone clarify  this species?

Those little guys do fight well. Theres a lot of shaking. I havent eaten one yet, mostly because they seemed undersized. I always figured they where a juvenile of a species. Nice to know they are fair game.

Because they are a magnet for heavy metals.

There is a red version as well. Just as well to release them. Oregon is zero take for coppers so some populations are protected.

It looks more copper underwater but fades when you take it out.  And I agree that was the best tasting rock fish I have tried.  I once thought they all would taste the same but they don't.
