Once your hands are raisins, pulling knots tight cuts you up. Less knots otw, the better.

30 lb braid to 20 lb fluorocarbon about 8 ft. For the reason I can retie a swivel after I break off. For me too heavy of a leader could put me in the drink.

I like the 30lb leader because it is still light enough to break off,  but strong enough to horse a
big Ling away from a hole.

i can tie a jig on pretty damn fast.

80# mono came from my commercial boat in 1992 when I sold it. Triple Fish salmon leader material. Took a spool home. One can also handle that thick stuff without getting line cuts.

If my fingers get too cold to tie knots it is past departure time.

My leaders connect to the snap with a barrel swivel,  and connect to the jig/iron with a duolock. No tying on the water.

Every second spent tying on the water  is a second spent not fishing [emoji1]

I like GB2'S setup,  but i constantly change out jigs for irons when i rock fish,  so the duolock works best for me.

i like the duo lock myself except im always trimming frayed line and easier to tie to the jig, i dont like a lot of hardware.
plus 1 on the ( if its not in the water your not fishing) if i have to deal with a issue ill send down the second rod. and then clear the problem.

RCG's aren't leader shy so fluorocarbon is overkill, IMO. Save your fluoro for tuna. Use good hardware and they won't let you down. 99% of the time, the leader will break not the hardware. Rinse your connectors after every trip and they last for years.

Jigs - I normally don't run a leader with 30lbs braid; if I do it's a 3' pre-tied leader or a 16" single drop steel line.

Trolling jigs/swimbait - I never use a leader.  50lbs blue braid. Low drag.

Bait - 50 lbs braid with a hand tied 30lbs mono "modified" halibut two hook rig

Year to date, I've only lost two swim baits to the reef and one to lingzilla.  The trick is to keep the drag low and don't ever deep set a snag.  I tend to use big bait for bigger fish and I quick set so most of my hookups are the back hooks.

I use 30 lb power pro on the mainline. 30- 0r 40 lb. blue label seaguar fluoro. I like the seaguar its really tough. I fish very close to the bottom for big lings. I also never use any swivels to attach the main line to the leader. An uni to uni knot works best for me. If I have to break off it always breaks at the palomar knot I use at the terminal end of the leader where I have a black duo-lock snap for quick jig head changes. If I have to break off I wrap the mainline around the fish bonker then reel down with the rod vertical. Wait for the swell to lift the boat and bingo it breaks easy. Get used to tying the uni to uni on the water it only takes a few minutes. If you got sensitive hands that cut easy, Id just stay home and use lotion. hahahaha :smt006 :smt044
