After much research, reading, purchasing and rigging, I made it into the Ocean today for my maiden voyage.  Went with the two guys that sparked my interest in Kayak Fishing.  As luck would have it, I caught the first fish of the day.  We took off from the private campground at Timber Cove.  Caught three Rock Fish on my first trip into the ocean and saw what looked like a 25-35foot whale, possibly a humpback, not sure.  What a great day!!!!

Congrats on your new yak and your first fish!

Great shot of that whale and its cloud of exhale mist.  I've tried 10+ pictures of whales now and they look exactly like waves.

Nice work and thanks for the report.

Is that a TTU hat you're wearing?

@nowhereman -- Yes it is, TTU Red Raiders guns up!!! Both nieces attend, one graduates this year the younger has a few more.

Why is it called a Canary?

And yes I did release it but it didn't survive.  My buddy had a book with pictures and descriptions and it matched one of the "Don't take" pictures.

FYI, I forgot to mention this, there was a Fish and Game check point out there yesterday just north of the Hwy 1/ Hwy 116 intersection on Hwy 1.  They were gone upon return.  Not sure of this a regular event or not but thought I'd mention it.
