Haven't had this happen, but I've pulled in a fair amount of skip jacks and sand dabs in crab snare loops.  Usually a good sign for me to change tactics and start fishin' and stop crabbin'.

I have caught many dungy's while fly fishing in the surf.  Not snagged either, they actually grab the fly as it goes by.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

FYI, legally you are not allowed to keep one if caught with fishing tackle.  I have caught some monsters and was bummed I could not keep them.

Are you sure you didn't mean jack smelt???
A skip jack is a tuna. If I'm wrong just ignore me  :smt001

At one of my events at Alameda a few years back, I had a dungie grab my swimbait. Thought I was trolling at quite a clip, guess those crabs are quicker than you know. Too bad it was all I caught that day.

Yep over 6".. Tossed it back.. sucks.  Im not sure whats the difference between that and a crab snare. Laws are laws.

Happens a lot if you tip with squid on calm days. Cody caught a decorator crab at Ocean Cove once.

Size has nothing to do with it.  Using a hook is an illegal way to catch crab.  Just trying to keep others from getting a ticket.

And I never meant he kept the crab he caught, I know he threw it back.
