I have been planning on doing this project for a while and I finally had the time to mess around with making my own swimbaits.  I tried at first making the mold out of plaster of Paris but I had a hard time pulling out the plastic baits.  Finally went to Tap plastic to get some silicone mold and re-did the whole thing.  Got my plastisol and coloring from lure craft  Here is the experimental results :smt003

Then why does it say Big Hammer on the inside of one of your molds? I guess Im confused. If you really want to impress someone carve your own baits then make the molds.

Please don't delete this thread.

The idea is totally cool, and it looks like a first step in a process that could very well lead you to carving your own swimbait plugs, and pouring some unique swimbaits.

Ravensblack is just getting defensive because he is a Bighammer guy, but he needs to lighten up. You certainly shouldn't sell any swimbait that rips off someone else, but it doesn't look like you are doing that.  It looks to me like you set out to prove a concept, succeeded, and shared with us.

Thanks for sharing!  I too would like to pour my own soft plastics one day.

I think this is a good guide for those thinking of pouring their own swimbaits. Can you fill in the Big Hammer imprint in the molds? I see no problem using their swimbait for patterns. They will not be mistaken for big hammers if the name is not on the sides and tail, and you use different plastics.

Nice! I'm sure you'll test them out but if you don't I'm willing to. Thanks for sharing!
