I went fishing down where we had the HOW event yesterday. Because of a surgery I had on March 6 I am under doctors orders not to kayak fish for another week or so, although I did cheat a little yesterday.

Today I broke out a Tenkara Rod that I purchased years ago in Hong Kong, have never tried this type fishing before. (Told my wife no casting or reeling trying to follow doctors and keep her happy).

Here are a couple videos, first shows how the rod works. Fished for 10 minutes caught four fish, second video was largest I caught.

When I used to fish LC a lot it was pretty much impossible to not catch a fish on that concrete block. That's a fun lake!

Love my Tenkara rod!  Always in my trunk, as well as my switch rod.  You never know when you might stop and fish some water.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Scott, what is your favorite fly for LMB?

I'm sure Scott will jump in.

My favorite fly for bass is your basic chart/white clouser minnow. It'll work on stripers, largemouth & smallies. Easy to tie, you can make them in all kinds of sizes & colors. Works on rockfish & lings too.

This afternoon I tried a Rust Marabare which my daughter saw in Fly Tyer magazine and tied last time she was home, caught about 10 of these in 45 minutes.

Fun thing with the Tenkara rod was having three or four LMB chase the red ear perch every time I got one on. Must have been the way the 19' rod bends so easily and vibrates when a fish is on, noise is pretty loud plus the panfish swimming in circles vs being reeled in fairly quickly attracted the large fish. Bass would chase it right to the surface.

I have caught many panfish in same area on spinning rod but have never seen the reaction from the bass I saw today.

For bass I prefer my little size 8 black wiggle tail that I tie up.  I have caught bass up to 7 pounds on it.  People laugh when they see it because of how small it is, but it works great.  I've thrown bigger clouser and I have some hair wig flies, but that little wiggle tail is my go to fly for anything in freshwater.  If I can remember I'll post a pic.
