Great report guys.  I've never fished Del Valle, but you're making me want to give it a try.

Thanks.

Talked to a fly fisher friend of mine who told me the boils are now happening regularly near the ramp right now.

Sucka, ya had me going. Stripper fishing at Del Valle ain't what it used to be. This weekend a friend's little  girls did catch a 5# and a 7-8 #'er from shore at the south beach

Nice work Frank!  I'm gonna have to hit that lake sometime soon now that the salt season is over.  Thanks for the report and pictures.

The boils I'm sure are a result of the small baitfish but the proximity to the launch ramp is because of the trout plants.  While it would be work, I'm sure a swimbait out there would be deadly!

RShu, Ooter1 and I went early November for a try at Trout and Stripers.  I trolled grubs for trout and a hair raiser for stripers with not even a touch all day.  Roger and Brian were skunked too.  We had to be off the water at 5:00pm, so we were loading the kayaks on the trailer at 5:00 when the stripers started boiling on the dock area.  Roger grabs his rod with a kastmaster, and I grab my rod with the hair raiser.  A couple casts and "Fish On."  We both hook up and land some nice eater size stripers.  I told this story to CK, Tak2, and Anglerfish and they wanted to give it a try a couple of days later.  We get there around 4 and get ready to slam them.  This time there were no fish boiling or any action.  They think that I made the whole story up :smt005  Sometimes fishing is luck; Being at the right place at the right time.

The cookie cutters stay between 15' and 20'. Mostly near drastic drop offs for ambush. Popciles free lining works well in those area's this time of year. Find a spot like I mentioned and back your Kayak into the bank. #1 hook through gill plate or eye and then half hitch at tail with line running along body of chovie. Cast to edge of drop off to deep side.  Tighten line best you can.Leave reel in open position and you'll know when your hit. I repeat approx. every 20 min.

Awesome work guys and thanks for the report!  I've fished DV a couple of times but have never caught a fish there.  I might give it another chance....hopefully soon.

100+ yards of boiling fish sounds so freakin' cool  :smt004.  One of these days I'd love to experience that with stripers.  Good fishing there guys.

Since I am on the sidelines for a few more weeks, thought I would post a hookup from the past that shows that Del Valle can be very productive this time of year. Working out again and should be out there soon.
