NOAA has a different opinion...

Here's the point forecast for the area near MBK:

Sunday
Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming W 5 to 8 kt in the afternoon. Partly sunny. Mixed swell...WNW 4 ft and WSW 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

My tentative plan is to launch from Moss Landing on Sunday and troll the area around Mulligans.

Alex, how far out of moss landing do you go to look for salmon? Just wondering what the minimum paddle distance is.
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

It gets REALLY deep just offshore from Moss Landing. Paddle just 1/2 mile out at you might find yourself in 400+ foot deep water. 200 foot deep water is just 1/3 of a mile out.

The salmon might be in close, or they might be out 4-6 miles. Recent action (if you can call it that...) has been near Mulligan Hill (36.44.98 / 121.52.37), which is about 6 miles SSW of Moss Landing.

Salmon fishing is a very interactive adventure. You've gotta keep your radio on and keep your eyes and ears peeled for any signs of life. If you hear a report of action or see birds working, head in that direction...

100% rain in Monterey, not my type of weather unless I'm freediving

back in my PB days we left Moss Landing to hit up the soldiers club but my passengers were really uncomfortable on the water. So decided to troll just outside the harbor along the edges of the drop off. Nothing on the graph, no bait balls, but we caught salmon. Ironically, all the boats that zipped out got skunked. Sometimes you just have to be the first guy

Good point.... Salmon fishermen always love to join the fleet. But.... If the fleet isn't catching fish, why would you join them?!?!
