I'm looking for a place to go camping for a weekend with the family where I could also RF. With launch from the campground and within 3H drive from San Jose (North or South). I was thinking Timber Cover but apparently they don't take reservation. Any suggestions?

Ocean Cove is just up from TC and should have plenty of spots.

Reef campground few miles south of timber Cove Salt Point State Park are both options can't drive to the beach and launch but they're both doable. Salt Point State Park much more family friendly with things to do for the kids. for a couple bucks to launch kayak with Drive to water beach access timber Cove and ocean Cove have that for you. fort Ross has pretty easy beach access also and it's a place for wife and kids. no camping though day use only

Salt Pt State Park (takes reservations thru ReserveAmerica) no showers)probably has the best surroundings for camping, best camping is in the Woodside section, about 3, 1/2 hr north of SJ, launch at the park, a bit of work from the drop off inside the park to the water but not bad.  Just minutes from Timber Cove (easiest launch on the North Coast) Just a few minutes south is Stillwater County Park, referred to as Still Water North.  Reservations thru Sonoma County, Has showers.

Anchor Bay is another spot.  For my money, Timber Cove is best launch.  Bathrooms/showers are in need of repair.
Gerstle COve is one of the most beautiful spots to camp, walk, observe.  Having said that, the launch is an ankle buster.  The rewards of getting out and fishing are worth it.

The wind is going to blow so be careful.  Three ab divers died this past weekend at Casper.

I am partial to Stilwater Cove, a Sonoma County Park. The campground  is small, clean, has showers and is mostly quiet. Easy launch at Stillwater cove or Timber cove is just a mile or so down the road. I prefer it over Ocean Cove which is wide open, anything goes camping. But there is always a spot at Ocean Cove and they have nice group sites.

My vote is Woodside at Salt Point, or Stillwater Cove. Both are across the street from the coast but are nice because they're surrounded by trees which gives you a little protection from the wind. Woodside is one of my favorite campgrounds period.
