I got rolled up on by game warden at ice house. He was in a little aluminum boat,, looked like any other fisherman. I explained to him that my license was in my truck at the parking lot. He broke out his cell phone, ran my ca drivers license number (which must have linked him to his office), and sent me on my way.
I realize I got really lucky,, but it goes to show it can be done.

Used to be a ten dollar fine, but California is so broke they have to squeeze every penny out of their law abiding citizens. At least the judge lowered it to a hundred.
Yeah, but how much did it cost the state to process this court case, pay the judge, etc..... way more than $100!  Overall a net loss for the state.....

Yeah, but what does the state do that's not a net loss?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the implementation of the ALDS database make it possible for DFG to check your license status from the field without a physical license present? I get it that a warden might not have radio contact at all times, but if someone has purchased a fishing license, why in the world should they get a fine now that the state has ALDS? Other than extra "revenue" that is.

What's the fine for driving with a forgotten license?
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Last November I went on a pb for crab.Thought my license was in my wallet. Was in my PFD. Scott Peterson ramp in Berkeley. Fish cop asked me if I had a license. Took my DL, pulled out his phone, done. He reminded me out on the ocean they can't check. I was almost as concerned about my crab than the ticket. He said to give me a ticket would be a waste of time and money. The common sense was refreshing.

i got checked by DFG in monterey and asked what would happen if I didnt have my lic on me (i had mine on me) .  The officer told me he could check through my driver's lic.  All was good.  i guess it depends on the officer if he is feeling nice or wants to be a dick.
