I've always had good luck with gently hosing down reels as soon as I get home and letting them air dry. A little reel oil in the spool bearings, crank handles, levelwind, etc every now and then...

What I have a hard time with is terminal tackle... I've started giving my ball bearing swivels a spritz of WD-40 after rinsing which seems to be helping, but I gotta get some of that Corrosion-X. Or maybe some Salt Away. Or both...

I noticed that the party boats have a jar filled with some sort of mystery liquid that they leave their wire baiter hooks soaking in. I'm guessing maybe it's Salt Away? I have thought about bringing an old Gatorade bottle half full of that stuff out with me on the water. Each rig I cut off would go straight into the juice instead of back into the Plano box to rust up my other terminal tackle... Then just deal with it when I get home...

I just washed my entire 18' boat down with saltaway Sunday.  Ratio is like 500:1 so a quart goes a long way.
