I thought I read that he has others doing the rebuilds/repairs.

Ken, i did that a couple of times. The only result was paying $25 twice with no fix.

A lot of my bass fishing buddies use Dan Issac at Reelx and highly recommend him for Shimano reels.  Well, that is if Alan Tani is unavailable.   :smt001

I agree, I view their website for the repairs I dont think they will do something about Sand damage. I loaned it to a friend for perching and he decided to wash it on the surf. ugh! Thanks, I will see what I can find in youtube. If it will cost me $50 I prolly do it myself/purchase another type of reel.

I have heard mixed reviews on Shimano's service. Alan does have some young guys working with him but they are good. It is probably the spool bearings so the cheapest would be to open the reel yourself and replace the spool bearings if needed. You can get the replacement bearings from shimano or places like Boca.

If its sand then it might get costly.if its "wobbly"then the one way bearing might be bad or the handle nut screw is loose.sand damage gets pretty bad.I had a few that I used in the surf and just from over spray it did alot of damage. My guess is you'll probably have to deep clean the reel and most likely have to change out the bearings.but thats just a guess without taking it apart
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Hey pare',
I had a Calcutta 400, 250, & 50.  I know my way in and out of em.  I also know what parts to grease & what parts to oil.  I can give it a try & look at it, or even show you how to repair for the nominal low price of lumpia Shanghai!  From one brother to another..  Like.

It's all good.  I'd hate for you to send it out, and wait a week or two.  It's probably like 15-30 minute overhaul.

Send it back to Shimano. $20-30, and more than likely they'll just send you a brand new reel.

They have done this 3x for me when I've sent Cardiffs in.
