Headed down to river for shore fishing looking for SMB, did land one on all gold panther martin, the second picture is a very ugly fish, he ran into my hook, took about 20 minutes to get him close enough to see and take a picture before I cut the line.

Did see some spots on tail that looked like steelhead plus could see where fin had been cut-off like hatchery fish, and still some pink on the sides, but not sure what kind of fish it is, no hook mouth so probably not a salmon, about 30 inches long. Was fun to catch took my line out except for few wraps left on reel, 6 lb test, had a lot of fight left.

Wonder what's the mystery fish?  Thanks for the report and pictures Eastonkayaker.

My vote is Salmon, no steelhead could ever look that bad  :smt003, nice catch though...
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

I looked at both pictures I took, no adipose fin like it had been clipped, thought they only clipped steelhead but maybe some female salmon are clipped to or it was lost some other way.

Anyway, anybody looking at light reels I again have to recommend the Penn Sargus 32000, excellent reel if you happen to hook a large fish, the drag control is very precise which allows you to fight the fish. I beat the heck out of that reel, I have managed to dunked it a few times, but take it apart, clean it up, a little grease and she keeps working. Casts great also.

My votes on salmon also.
And I'm pretty sure they clip salmon if they have a tag in them.
