You could call it yakpacking. By lacing an extra strap or two though the scupper holes of a light sot and around the frame and padded bars of a Seattle Sports canoe carrier you can gain the necessary rigidity to the union to transform the yak into very functional hand cart that will haul enough camping gear and supplies for a short stay. The payoff is greatest on lakes that are large and deep enough to hold large fish that are under utilized by shore or float tube anglers and can be exploited with the aid of a sonar and deep trolling techniques.

Nice set up!  There are folks that use this technique to get to isolated beaches too.  What's your set up weigh with just the cart and kayak gear?

Pretty sure these aren't allowed in designated wilderness areas. No bicycles and no deer carts probably means no kayak carts too.

Crash, I'm sure you are correct, the wheels are not allowed in designated wilderness. They should be ok on National Forest and useful in areas where 4wd trails have been closed to the public. The pics are from the eastern sierra, Kirman and near by lake. The yak weighs a little more than 40 and the cart, 15.

Yes, no wilderness. But for open areas that's a great way to get a boat and camping gear in. I want to get into Kirman this year - probably via mountain bike and innertube.

If that's the lake in thinking of near emigrant wilderness, it has some big cutthroat in it. I haven't been there in at least 30 years, and I'm pretty sure we drove there but I could obviously be mistaken.  I need to get back up that way,  absolutelybeautiful country.

I use an inflatable 15lb kayak and I just make sure it is VERY clean, drained, and dried before going to a new lake.

I'll stick with my 2 pound float tube and fins.  Plus it fits in my backpack.

Props for taking a kayak on a hike though!!
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!
