Howdy folks.

Kenai_guy from, you guessed it, Kenai Alaska.  I'm a member of NWKA and fish quite a bit in the salt & fresh waters up here in AK for halibut, salmon, and anything else that will bite and taste good on the dinner table.

Looking to dust off my ol speargun and try it out on some critters up here in AK, so I thought I might be able to dig around on this site here for spearfishing and yak fishing tips and tricks.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Andy

I'm so stoked to see some AK representation here now.

Only lived there a few summers, but they were formative. Caught my first kayak salmon there, and saw my first PacHali too.

welcome & we look forward to future reports!

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

You ever watch the show Buying Alaska?  are those prices, listings, and remodel expectations BS?

Welcome Andy, if you want to spear in Alaska, the best thing to do is find divers there.  I've traded some emails with Howard Teas. He has been very helpful and open to helping new divers.

I'll throw out the only dive contact I know anywhere close to the Kenai: Mike Bender of Lazy Otter Charters. He's based out of Whittier, up near Portage.
I know he does a lot of photography and does wall dives in the fjord there.

good luck & keep us posted.

If you ever get over around Petersburg let me know.  I have a good friend there that dives quite a bit with his wife.  They've got a super nice ocean boat as well that's more than capable of mothership trips for several kayaks.  I'm pretty sure he's got a guiding license there now.
