Kayak Fishing for Rockfish, Lingcod, California Halibut and Ocean Salmon
April and May usually kicks-off the SF Bay and Pacific Ocean kayak fishing season! California Halibut fishing starts picking-up during this period, and it’s currently looking like Rockfish/Lingcod and Salmon will open in April. Along with being premier table fare, these species are highly sought after and popular gamefish. Additionally, several major kayak fishing tournaments focus on these species throughout the season, including Monterey Bay and Shelter Cove in May, Albion in August, Santa Cruz/Trinidad/Sonoma County in September, and Anchor Bay in November. This is going to be an information-packed, team-taught seminar that will cover basic ocean safety issues along with a load of information on gear, rigs, methods and strategies for targeting these species. Come on down and learn about ocean kayak fishing for these species and swap fishing info and stories with other local kayak anglers.

WE WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A SPECIAL INVITE TO ALL OF THE NEWER NCKA MEMBERS FROM THE SACRAMENTO AREA, AND BEYOND, TO CONSIDER ATTENDING. IT IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO MEET EXPERIENCED OCEAN KAYAK ANGLERS AND LEARN HOW TO SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY TARGET OCEAN FISH FROM A KAYAK.

Ocean Kayak Fishing Safety:
Safety is paramount to kayak fishing in the salt. Mike Totaro (“Tote”) will cover the basic issues that all saltwater kayak anglers need to learn and follow to deal with the unique set of safety concerns involved with fishing from kayaks on SF Bay and the Pacific Ocean.  Mike is a very experienced ocean kayak angler and great teacher and will provide an overview on clothing, food/liquids, hypothermia, weather and other critical safety issues.

Rockfish/Lingcod:
James Pratt (“Rider”) will provide a discussion on strategies, gear and rigs for targeting jumbo rockies and lings.  James is a Hobie Fishing Team Member and a member of the CCK Fishing Team.

California Halibut and Salmon:
Chuck Espirtu (“ChuckE”) and John Keane (“Bird”) will tag-team these topics and cover regs, kayak rigging, gear, tackle, and strategies for targeting, hooking, and landing halibut and salmon in the ocean, plus info on water temps, salinity, and tides for SF Bay halibut.

With the longer days and nice, warm Sacramento spring evenings we’ll fire-up the grill, BBQ some man-dogs and do it up NCKA potluck style.  CCK will provide dogs, buns, fixings, plates, utensils, water/soda.  Please bring a food item or drinks to share with group.

Please post-up here, shoot me a PM, or RSVP with CCK at the phone number above if you will attend so we can plan the BBQ.
