Been using my Kitchen aid stand mixer sausage maker combo.  Find it to be rather slow system.  Recently I came across a youtube video where people are useing a manual meat grinder with  witht he handle removed, and the end of the auger ground so it will chuck up on in a half inch drill.  The results look promising, and I was curious if anyone has ever tried it?  Meat grinders do look to be a tad on the expensive side.  Thoughts?

That works.  Also done it with apple crushers.  Basically, if it hand cranks, you can make it spin with a drill or a small motor.

One of these years I'll pick up one of these:

Which model of the Kitchen Aid stand mixer do you have?  I was thinking of buying one a couple weeks ago, partially for the grinder, but decided I'd do some research first.

There is an artisan version and a pro version...I was wondering how the artisan would do.

I have the pro and have do ~5-10 lbs at a time. Suits my needs fine for small batches but it's a real pita when trying to do any reasonable processing.

I got an artisan a few years back as a christmas present, don't waste your money on it.  They are good for baking things but not much else.

http://benstarr.com/blog/finally-an-all-stainless-steel-meat-grinder-attachment-for-kitchenaid-smokehouse-chef/

This guy has a review of a company that makes a dishwasher safe SS meat grinder attachment for a Kitchen aid pro.

http://www.butcher-baker.com/the-original-stainless-steel-meat-grinder-attachment-for-kitchenaid-mixer-plus-sausage-stuffing-kit/

Hope this is useful for you.  I am going to need to justify selling my Aritsan to GF, to get a PRO Model so I can grind better.  Yeah, I bet I am going to win that argument.

I have the cabelas commercial grinder and love it.
The grinding speed has never been a problem, it's the stuffing part that never flies fast enough.
