You can catch the same fish in Humboldt until you make a trip to Alaska except you have to release the yelloweyes and canaries.

Just because you can catch the same species doesn't mean you are anywhere near the "Alaska Experience".  Not even close ...

True. Humboldt isn't "The Alaska Experience" but neither is Alaska the Humboldt experience.  I wonder if fishing out of Homer and in the Cook inlet might be less difficult in a kayak than crossing the bar and fishing the open waters offshore.

not fishing related but I got really close to doing a backpack camping trip to Alaska with my Army roommate way back when.  But then I receive orders for South Korea :smt009.  I ended up instead clearing my unit and packing my stuff for Korea.  My room mate ended up going and even was taken and picked up by my dad to the Airport....
Hoping to do camping and fishing and have the Alaskan experience there in the future...thanks for the post. :smt003

You alll crck mee up.  I wish I had more to contribute so I can stay up with everything here better!!!

Having lived on the Pacific Ocean side of Washington (Ocean Shores, WA) I can tell you that fishing Homer and the areas I fish in Southcentral Alaska are INFINITELY EASIER in terms of launches and sheer size of water.  Where we fish it's 99% wind chop most of the time.  I have NEVER seen anyone kayak fishing wearing a helmet here in Alaska and I haven't yet found a place whee I would even remotely think about it.

Ok, so we deal with a little colder weather, typically longer drives (this spot is a 450 mile round trip for me) and a LOT fewer people.  We do have some awful nice fish though!   It is an experience unique to Alaska but know that for someone who lives up here, I see your posts and think YOU GUYS are the ones living the dream!!!!
