I only use gloves for crabs. Use a lucid grip or boga for lings. Your hands get beat up from verms and coppers in particular. Bring some flex wrap to stop the bleeding and you are good to go. Gloves for fishing are for wussies. :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

The blue and white ones or white and orange ones for sure.
Sun protection is my first priority. They work really well for handling fish too.

I like those plastic grip too. But they have been known to snap when fishing for donger lings.  :smt005

Damn Zee, that was an incredible fish! I'm glad I chose the stainless steel grip with a swivel should I ever get the opportunity for a Ling that big! Thanks for posting that, badass!

I usually keep mine in my purse right next to my testosterone pills. :smt006 :smt003 :smt044

I'm with Craig on this one. Learn how to handle your fish and you shouldn't have any problems. Thumb the rockfish (not cabs though 😄) and gently grab the lings from the gill plates but not through the gills. If you put your finger in the gills then you damage the fish and the rakers will shred your fingers.

Learn to be proud of the bass thumb that results from a great day or two on the water. The fish bleed for us so we deserve to bleed a bit for them too. All those fancy lip grippers look really good for breaking fishes jaws to me. Fine if you are going to keep anyways but lame if you are going to release.

we had a saying when I was an Iron Worker

would you put your Dick there?
Well then why do you have your finger there?

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

That's an awesome vid! I seen the same thing happen to Don- PescaDONo. I told him instead of doing TC again, let's do my Sea Ranch spot and I'll put you on a beast. Once there, I gave him one of my Branson swimbaits and little while longer I look over and he's bendo! I pull up to watch the battle and I see this huge ling come up and start biting the side of his Outback. He pulls out those damn plastic lip grippers... "you're crazy using those things" I yell out. Once lipped the fish goes crazy, water is flying everywhere, Dons kayak is rocking, he's hanging on "you can do it, Don!!!"

Nope, there's Don soaked with a 'what the hell just happened' look on his face and holding one side of the broken grippers and no fish. Sorry Don, but after seeing that video I had to go there. That was a fun day OTW!
