This is very last minute, but I'm hoping we can find a little cabin for a few days before the kids go back to school.

We've really enjoyed our last two summer trips to the Mt. shasta/McCloud areas, so much so we wanted to experience it this winter.  I've checked VRBO and trip advisor but remain slightly confused about the area in winter.

Ideally we would like to rent a cabin in snow.  What are the areas that have snow on the ground now?  Are there local rental places/agencies that would be better to contact?

Any help would be appreciated.

Nate

I know the ski park is open and the ice skating arena is open, not sure about cabins that have snow yet, I will call a few friends and see tomorrow.

For where the snow level is at try this site, web cams of the area

Looks like to find any substantial snow you need to be above 4500 ft elevation. Mt. Shasta city is at 3600 ft. You could look at Mt. Lassen area also

Do the house rentals on McCloud.  Mccloud is higher than Mt Shast(town). Check vrbo. Quick drive on 89 to Skipark.  Beautiful views off the mountain from the streets of mccloud.  We do that every year. It's so awesome.  Make sure u got 4x4 or chains...I'm jealous.  We are planning a trip there late January.

Recognize it from the Epic Log Homes show on Destination America channel?
could have bought it for a steal in 2010.  Someday . . .

That's how you know you are a high roller.  When you can consider a 7,600 sq ft. luxury log cabin on 55 acres "a steal".

Thing is, it sleeps 10 so get 2 or 3 families together & it might be doable.

Was up there yesterday to 'work' and also fished Siskiyou.  No snow in town, snow level looks to be around 4500' or so.  Afraid I don't have any leads on vacation rentals, but we have stayed in the cabins at the Mt. Shasta Resort which makes for a nice jumping-off point for other adventures, and it's right on the lake.  They have a groupon deal going to so you can get a cabin for about $100/night or so.
