My best buddy is in from New York for the holidays and I figured I'd do a 5 minute ceremony so he can be my witness He might not be able to afford a second trip out next year for the real wedding. Would be a good thing to legitimize my upcoming bastard child  :smt003

Anywhere in the SF - Monterey - Sacramento triangle.

I'm not an officiant, but I believe you can get a certificate online that the CA State will accept so that someone can perform either a one time or limited wedding ceremonies.

I'm an ordained minister with the Universal Life Church.  I haven't performed any weddings but I have the books with all of the various religious ceremonies and preferences.  I'm located in Danville but might be able to work something out.  Where do you want the ceremony to take place?  If the conditions would just clear up, I could even do a yak wedding somewhere.

I can do it... Anyone, pretty much can. Just do the paperwork correctly and have witnesses sign... As a Minister/member of the LDS/Mormon church I can visit most any hospital etc... And perform weddings (and lots of other cool stuff)
California Family Code section 400(a) allows "[a] priest, minister, rabbi, or authorized person of any religious denomination" to solemnize a marriage. [Sarah's emphasis.] So the question is, what does this mean and how is it possible that filling out a form on a website will qualify? I'm still noodling through the nuances of this question, but it seems that yes, indeed, an online marriage church will qualify. As crazy as it sounds, nothing in the California marriage statutes requires that the minister file credentials with the state or county, either. The county and state are removed entirely from any responsibility for verification of our officiant's credentials. The State does not maintain a central registry of members of the clergy.

I think as a group we could come up with more than a 5 min ceremony for HER. Potluck and party would be my Idea of how to do it...

Most counties will issue a short term permit for anyone to be a "minister".  My buddy Dave did my wedding that way.

Brian,

Don't hybridize or compromise.  If you want to go small, go small.  If you want to go big, do it big.  That riding the fence $hit is going to set the tone for a lifetime of marital ambiguity that you would rather avoid.

Also doing a two stage rocket booster is not recommended either.  I had two receptions, a "small" secular one with 200 ppl, then a subsequent ethnic banquet with 800 ppl that was more liturgical.  Two events will double the possibility for tribute and presents, sure.  But that material benefit is exponentially outweighed by the amount of fighting you have to endure.  Who needs four toasters anyway?!  :jerk:

And with that, let me know offer a wedding present of one night stay at the Palace in SF if you want to get hitched at SF City Hall or somewhere's nearby.
