Hi all,

So I needed a fishing pole holder so I don't have to try to hold my pole and paddle at the same time, does not work well for me.

So I turned to Google knowledge http://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9008  and found a easily made pole holder. It uses 4" PCV or ABS pipe, a saw and sander and well just a place to mount it.
Here  are the two I came up with.  One is ABS while the other is acrylic that is first cut and then bent.  I like the pipe better as I am able to adjust the rod angle where as the acrylic one is fixed.  I will have three on my tandem, one for the front person and two for the person in the back.

Here are a few pics and a PDF of the lay out if you want to make one.

Those are cool! Scotty products all over my boat but I just might have to make some of those :smt001
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Nice.

ABS always seems kinda brittle to me. I'd think that PVC might hold up better over the long run.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

they look good.  PVC instead of ABS or HDPE instead of acrylic for better durability if they break on you.  2c

Agreed, PVC and ABS are brittle and leave sharp shards - HDPE will stretch and deform, eventually tear but usually stays attached . . . we use HDPE for mortar tubes in the fireworks industry for these properties.

Quite the opposite.    Have you ever tried breaking ABS pipe?      PVC snaps, especially when cold.    ABS is extremely durable.

This site has stats for a lot of different plastics:

http://www.plasticsintl.com/sortable_materials.php

If you believe their numbers, PVC wins in terms of tensile strength (by a little) and compressive strength (by a lot), but ABS is much better wrt impact resistance.
