I like the change.  We may not have a Pacific halibut season in May though.  Does the pro division include the tshirt?

Pro Division and regular entry all get the same schwag - t-shirt, B2Squid tackle, HT Extension - possibly a few other goodies.

I figure about 50 people in Pro Division, so about a $500 grand prize.

Two 30" lingcod and two 30" salmon = 120" = AOTD, probably...

40" lingcod, 40" salmon, 35" salmon, 50" halibut = 165" = maybe...

28" lingcod, 25" lingcod, nothing else = 53" = maybe...

The non pro division competes for the kayak and other prizes

I'm considering this - but pro has paid extra for extra chance at cash - only one will win, so others should get a chance at the Predator XL...  Much to consider.  Thanks for the input.   :smt001

I love the thought of trophy's for non pro, as long as they are homemade type trophy's. BigJim posted a
pic of his office on Facebook,  I for one was very jealous of the NCKA trophy's on the wall !!!!!

Instead of calling it Pro Division why not say High and Low Roller. Calling it Pro will seem like only the best should play in that field. By using these terms I think more will feel they have a chance and get in. I think anyone has a chance to win on any given day. It takes luck and skill, not just one or the other. Just my thoughts to get more entries.

Thx, Rob.  Totally appreciate your input.  Not sure I want more entries - almost went with total "BRO" tournament - Bragging Rights Only!   :smt001

Number of entries won't be a problem, and the BRO format is good for the rockfish divisions/old format.  Calling it "Pro Division" is sticking with me - I don't care if it scares some off.  It's the idea that we're focusing on species that actually do take a little more skill to hook, fight and land to the yak.

If 90% of the tourney field only signs up for the $25 schwag and raffle entry toward a Predator XL I'll be stoked.  I'm trying not to have any agenda or expectation for how it should be - just trying to facilitate the best opportunity.   :smt001

Super Excited Eric!

As a new competitor, im stoked to be up there learning and fishing with a bunch of awesome people.

Question,

If pro devision is optional not mandatory, would both people on a tandem be required to fish in the same division?

Aloha,

Isao

I would want to review that on a case by case basis, Isao.  Having gotten to know you and Amber I definitely approve if you two choose to fish in separate divisions.   :smt001

How about 2 kayaks Eric?
Let say $50 to enter the pro division for an AOTD kayak prize for the competitive spirits.
And $25 or so for the general entrants just wanting to take part in GS and maybe win a kayak on the raffle.
Those doing the pro will also be included in the raffle.
There is always side bets going on anyway for those wanting cash.  Just an idea! :smt003

Allan,

Great idea, I like it! I also like the cash option. Let's say GS pulls 100 guys in the PRO division at $50, that's $5000.00   . Do a 50/30/20 split, that is sweet! You can count me in!

But let's say no cash for whatever reason, well even if GS gets the 90% (that would be 196 out of 218 from 2014) attendance at $25 each, that's like $4900.00 bucks. That's easily a few kayaks at retail, and even better at pro deal. That's the power of having such a large event like this, just from attendance $$ alone you can afford some really great prizes for sure. I'm totally stoked and looking forward to GS this year and all the great prizes!  :smt003

Mike

I appreciate the input, Allan, but I'm looking to build up the spirit and energy of the gathering without having such a focus on prizes.  Trying to keep it fun for everyone while at the same time remembering the sentiment of those who've expressed that they enjoyed a smaller gathering too.

I won't be going with a $50 entry fee - $35 is my intention for "Pro Division", and $10 of that goes to the cash purse which would be won by AOTD.

Having the biggest kayakfishing tournament on the west coast is cool, but if it shrinks because people want more chance at a prize I won't mind.

I feel good about making my intentions clear up front, so anyone who doesn't wish to participate on my terms can certainly opt out.   :smt001

I am opting in Eric, prizes or not. Cash is king. I really don't like winning kayaks, pain to deal with later.

How about a pro am division in which we handicap all the super pros by teaming them  with a scrubbie newbcake. There can be a completely arbitrary ranking system by which we score the scrubbiness of each am.  Like say if they're a lamer that uses mono, or they fish off yaks held together by epoxy, or they don't even fish anymore.

So a kook like that would get a score of -18.7359. Then the pro would have to step to the midget tossing booth and see how far they could chuck the shorty.  Distance measured by Hawg troughs, mouths closed, and the distance would be added to help offset the newbcake scoring.

Then we fish. Teams must keep the first 3 fish they catch and bring them in for a trough off, in which each participant must strut their way up to a podium to weigh in.  Bonus points may be awarded for style, grace and/or swimsuit.

The winner will be based by aggregate score and the top 17.6 contestants will win a kayak.

No contest will be complete without whining, so teams may submit a formal protest by means of a debate governed by English parliamentary rules, complete with powdered wigs.

Just a suggestion, feel free to ignore :)
