The cost of mail-ordering huge swimbaits and shadheads is making me sick.  I want to start pouring my own and I found a couple web pages that sell some jighead molds.  Does anyone have any information that would help get me started?  What are some good sources for supplies?  I couldn't find any swimbait molds online anywhere.

Yeah I can give you the lowdown on softplastics, it is really easy and really fun.

I don't do lead myself so I am not that much help there but I will point you to a few good pages.

We I get home I will kick down some links.

How exactly is the plastic softner or hardner used? Is this used for adjusting the flexiblity/toughness of the bait?

yes.  It is an addition that you add to the melted plastic before you pour.

Yeah! I also want to learn how to pour my own swim bait. Also is there a way to repair them say for example such as  the bodies half torn or ripped. Furthermore is it cost effective?

I had a hard time finding places that sell swim bait head heavier than 4oz. Luckily I won some big and heavy ones from the bendo raffle. I think they were donated by Bill for the raffle. THank Bill! I wanted to buy more! Hey bill where did you get them?

You can make your own molds as big as you like...

Barlows is ok but I get my stuff from the following places:

Plastic - I use Calhouns Tube plastic. It's hard enough to survive for most of day of RCG fishing

I also get colors from Del-mart as well.

Glitter from Senko Sam. Ghetto site, great glitter

I have not ordered anything from this guy yet but he has BIG lead molds. Looks like great stuff

I have made most of my own molds, but lurecraft has some decent ones to start with

Finally a great site with tons of good info is Tackle Underground. Lots of bass dudes but good info

If you guys are really interested I can put up a tackle making forum.

Thanks so much Bill!  That helps me a lot.  I have a source for free led so I am going to start making my own led heads and plastics for sure.  It sounds like a lot of fun.

It is really cool when you catch something on a lure you poured. Pouring standard stuff is ok, but the real fun is when you start making your own designs. Boby from this bait, tail from that one etc... Good times and helps pass some time in winter for sure.

I was trying to remember lurecraft......

Pouring plastic is cool.  Pouring lead is very cool.

I don't have the stuff myself, but I have helped with Trix Jetty Worms a couple of times.
