That's a shame RIP diver and condolences to his family.

Can't remember but were the conditions suppose to worsen yesterday after the stellar Tuesday we had? Wonder if the conditions played into this unfortunate death?

It was the calm before the storm.  Tuesday was a very flat and calm day, then by yesterday at 7AM both Pt. Arena and Bodega had 20 to 25 knot winds blowing offshore and over 10' swell.   

The brief article's assessment that "abalone diving is usually safe" seems off the mark.

It's a dangerous sport, and someone dying (sounds like on the surface) doesn't indicate a "usually safe" situation.

RIP.
