I am beginning to think the fishing reports section should be broken into two subsections. "Catching" reports and "Skunk" reports.
I might have a record for most waters seriously fished with the most skunks from these waters.
Today Loon Lake was no different for me than my last FIVE or so reports. Nada. Zip. Zero. Donut. Goose Egg.
Got there early. Lake was pancake flat. Fish rising, a few jumping.
Trolled a dodger and mepps tipped with worm from the dam to the end of the lake. No love.
Went all the way to the tunnel at the farthest end of the lake. The water was pretty low but still decided to paddle into the tunnel. Got about 100 yards or so into it when I finally bottomed out. Too shallow. Pretty awesome inside if ya like caves.
I did some research on the tunnel  ( http://hydrorelicensing.smud.org/project/smud06ne.pdf  ) and was amazed at how many diversion tunnels there are in that area. I think this is the only one ( that I know of ) where paddling into it is no prob.
Of course to add insult to injury ( no fish ) the wind kicked up BIG time as usual and never at my back. Paddling felt like I was running 5 mph on a 4.5 mph treadmill going the opposite direction. needless to say I was 'later than expected' getting home.
I might try a trout farm in Apple Hill to get the jinx off of me. Something like $4 a pound when you catch a fish but it might be worth it to remind me what it feels like.

Ouch!  Sorry to hear about the skunk.  We took our Achilies boat into that tunnel back when I was a kid.  It was pretty spooky.  That link you posted isn't working for me.  Doesn't the tunnel come from spider lake?  We tried to go all the way through but it got too shallow.  I think it only flows water in the spring when the lakes are high.  Too bad about the wind too.  I had that happen to me last year up there.  How cold was it in the morning?

I know what you mean Mike. I'm in the "skunk" section too this week.  :smt012
Make sure you post the Apple Hill hookup, I may join you. :smt002

The tunnel goes from Buck Island Reservoir to Loon Lake. I also read where there is a hydro electric plant UNDER Loon Lake. Located 1,750 feet below the Earth's surface, lies a complete 70 megawatt facility. http://www.pirate4x4.com/trailreports/loon_powerstation/
I would have had some pretty cool pics too if I didn't forget my camera..  :knob:
