I've been contemplating purchasing a new headlamp, but I just can't figure out which one I need. I will likely buy it from REI because I have a bunch of REI Bucks to ease the sticker shock. I like what I have been reading about the Petzl Myo 3, but I don't think it's a current model. I'd like something that takes 3 AA batteries, has both LED and halogen lamps, comes in black, and is not made in China.

Any suggestions????

Thanks!

I use the Princeton Tec EOS... waterproof to 1 Meter, and very bright LED lamp.  Three brightness levels plus flashing emergency strobe.

I haven't used it rigorously, but am very satisfied with it the few times I've used it.

I just upgraded mine to this one...used it for the first time at the Forebay camping trip - I'm very impressed with it.  :smt023 :smt023 :smt023

.....they also say it's "highly water resistant" but I haven't used it under such conditions ....yet :smt002

I have a Black Diamond Moonlight headlamp. Had it for over 4 years now. I just replaced the batteries recently, as I was worried about them leaking. Otherwise, the LEDs were still bright, and this thing got used regularly.

I've Eskimo rolled with this thing on. Kept on ticking.

Would readily buy another.

I have a Tikka XP, same as Mooch. I haven't had it underwater but I did wear it through a deluge on a bike trip in the Rockies recently. Seemed very tight, no water got inside at least. Awesome headlamp, plenty bright for me but it might not bright enough for your purposes if you are looking at halogen.

the petzl ones do not do well near saltwater.  i had 2 corrode until dead.  the cabela,s rechargeable suck too much power and die quickly. stll looking for a perfect headlamp.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I made my headlamp purchase today. I went to REI and took a look at what they had. I was really impressed with their selection. I ended up buying the one that blinded me and was water resistant. It's the Petzl Tikka XP. It was $45.00 before the 8% tax Sonoma County has. Anyway, I'm wearing it right now and my wife thinks I'm a dork.

I'll keep the post up to date if I have problems with the lamp.

While I was in Santa Rosa I stopped off at the Outdoor Pro Shop and bought a new Shimano Cardiff real and 8'6" Okuma rod for steelhead fishing. That stop ended up at a little over $240.00.

I have a diamond moonlight too, 4 leds, 3 AAA batteries.  no halogen. no idea where it's made.

I like it so far, but I'm no headlamp expert.
