Name is Mark. Joined 3-4 years ago and posted maybe twice. Finally decided to be less lazy and start posting / participating. Thanks to everyone on the board for all the great information.
Quick intro: Former surfboard shaper, former surfer, presently working as a fisheries biologist ( after 25 + yrs in surfboards) in Santa Cruz & San Mateo counties working on coho / steelhead escapement estimates in local coastal streams.
Pretty much a lifelong fisherman, first fish caught at ~ 3 yrs old. Fishing level has ranged from unhealthy addiction levels to medium happy balanced amounts,  same thing with surfing.
Picked up kayak fishing 4-5 years ago. Used to fish of the longboard a bunch a long time ago wanted similar feeling, but more range and comfort.

Thanks much everyone.

Whats the story with Waddel Creek, I believe that is in Santa Cruz Co. I have a book from the fifties/sixties that goes into depth about the steelhead had silvers that where there back in the day. It sound very much like a tidal creek I often visit every winter/spring.

Waddell is a beautiful creek. Closed to fishing except the portion of the lagoon downstream of the Hwy 1 bridge. Big study done there in the 30's Shapavalov and Taft, published in I think 1955 that is still considered one of the central coast baseline bibles on coho and steelhead. Just like everywhere down this way numbers aren't what they used to be, even compared to 20-30 yrs ago.
