I don't know anything about cree lights...but, I have been using this light for several years now and it is BRIGHT.

Bright enough to light up the back of the darkest ledges, cracks and holes you will come across diving out here.

Also the thumb switch is very nice to be able to flick on and off on your way down when diving and on your way back up to save battery light.

Occassionally this model has had issues with switch and o-ring and I did have one die on me last year but UK has a great RMA policy and got me a brand new one in short order.

You can sometimes find them cheaper on leisure pro or other big chain stores, but Austin's is a great family business and has been a very generous DOTY sponsor every single year so I personally prefer to give them my $. Also Doug Austin is super helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you get what you need as quick as possible.

The first screenshot shows the light in action lighting up a nice female sheep in one of my favorite crack systems that I discovered earlier this year...has produced a male sheep, female sheep, two Lings and have seen a HUGE GPO and other Lings in there as well...the light was key to seeing all of the above.

Second screenshot is of a cave in Albion cove...was looking for a Ling that I found around the corner to the right....there is a BIG ab in there (right side of screen) that I would have taken if I didn't already have my limit...maybe it will still be there next time?  :smt003

You can see how nice the light works in both these pics...

Sincerely,

Jim

shoprat - pls do a product review!  there's lights with higher Lumen ratings that are less expensive, but again, i'm questioning the quality.
in addition to brightness, i'm really interestd in run time

Ok so took my light under for my first dive and it's not as bright as I thought it would be. Outside the water it's very bright but I need more underwater. Also the twist on is a pain in the water as mentioned by others. I thought this would be beneficial since its one less failure point but I didn't like the functionality.
