Just kidding.  :smt005

That'd be an interesting trip for sure. I am going on a sport fishing boat on Saturday, launching from Berkeley with my brother Chewbacca. Originally we were going to crab/fish the coast.

But now the Captain says it'd be better if we dropped pots along the coast, then boated out to Farallon Islands to fish for rockfish and lingcod.

I know nothing about this island that looks to be 40 miles out to sea. Anyone fished out there? What's it like?

Yes bring the big guns.  Anything you catch that's "Santa Cruz" sized, send it down on a trap rig and reel up a lingasaurus.

It's a long round trip ride out there.
Been there like 40 times back in the early 80's
when you could still fish deep.

Good luck there's some big ass fish out there.

Which boat/skipper?

Legal Limit Sportsfishing. Don't know the skipper. Other than my brother and crew, everyone on the boat is deaf. I haven't seen any of them in 12 years so it should be interesting!

You guys have me really excited about this trip. I've never been so far offshore! I can't wait to catch some monsters!

Don't wanna be a buzzkill but it ain't what it used to be. Don't get me wrong you'll have a great time and catch good fish. Just don't want to oversell it and have it become a let down.

Let's fish sometime, my ASL sucks but I could use the practice.

BTW, love the avatar.

I think it's closer to 20 miles out.  Everyone should go at least once.  Have fun!

Fishing can still be great at the islands, but it has gotten a bit of pressure over the years. Here's a tip for ya, stop short of the islands and load up on sandabs ..... Ling love them, and what you don't use fit the fryer ;0)

25 miles out the gate. Could see the islands clearly from Duxbury today. Have fun out there.

The trip was absolutely fantastic. I'll post pictures in a bit.

Highlights: LIMITS ON ALL THINGS. Haha it was awesome. Everyone got 2 lings, 10 rocks, 6 dungess crabs.  :smt008

I caught about ten bajillion rockfish haha.

Other highlight: 26" BOCACCIO ROCKFISH. Unreal. I could fit my fist down it's mouth. I thought it was a weird red lingcod or something. I looked at AOTY and this rockfish would be the biggest ever caught haha. Doesn't count for many reasons, I know, it's a lot more phenomenal to get a 25.5" from a kayak but still. Holy shit. That was a big ass rockfish.

My brother got his PB lingcod at 33"! Which trumps mine at 32! Dang it!

Man, I had the best time ever. It was so fun and I'm glad we all paid the extra $15 to drive out to Farallon islands.
