Went out to pigeon point last weekend with the family. Did some tidepooling and of course fishing. I love poke poling when I'm not out in the kayak and I had a decent day.  Nice grassy, or brown I'm not sure and a thick monkey face prickle back. They became fish tacos. I caught and released 2 small cabizones and a 12ish inch greenling, my first!!  All cought in 3-4 feet of water. It was a beautiful day with whales with in site of shore, lots of sun and not too much wind! Good times! :smt001

Nice!!

That's a grassy...clues are the stocky head and the oversized fleshy pectoral fins.

Browns will generally be a little lighter in color and have a distinctive dark spot right on the gill plate...

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Sincerely,

Jim

Right on!  Pigeon Point is a great spot to enjoy.  Used to beachcomb and ab dive there.   :smt001

Poke Poling is the stuff. MFE makes the best Fish Taco's too, Beer Batter! My wife even boils down the skin, spine, and head for a Thai style broth she does with veggies.

MFE does make good fish tacos!  Thanks all, love this site and hopefully I'll hook up with some of you in the future out on the water.
