Jim,

More divisions for kayak anglers?  I thought a field of just 7 teams was pretty small.  No doubt next year's event is likely to draw more kayak angling teams, but we're used to events where there are 40+ teams and one division.   I suppose you could break the divisions down to awards for largest rockfish, largest ling, largest combined stringer, etc.. I'm just not sure we're ready for "Beginners" and "Open" divisions.   There have been many kayak fishing events in the past were it seemed that only newbies were destined to ever win.

Anyway, there were many things I liked about this tournament (other than winning my division).  For one, I really liked the team format (I wouldn't have won otherwise), and I liked the chance to hang out with the spearos.   I would have really liked having a day where we trade tips from each other.  In particular, if I a spearo could have spent some time and introduced me to spearfishing or helped me with my Ab hunting I would have been more than willing to lend him or her my extra gear and take them kayak angling for a few hours.  Maybe that's a bit difficult to arrange, but maybe each group did some sort of general introductory demonstration for the other group.  Anyway, just some thoughts.

Thanks again for inviting us kayak anglers to your party,

Brian

Great feedback, Brian. I agree, I wanted to get more time with kayak anglers to find out about how they rig their yaks for fishing. The spearos are more than willing to share their knowledge, There needs to be some format to do that.

Maybe have the tourney on a Sunday. Would be a lot easier for some to head up Saturday, camp and hang out with everyone and share such tips.
If the tourney was Sunday I could have had time to gear up and enter.
