Cen's point is that in order to keep a salmon that is caught you MUST be fishing with what is legal for salmon.

If you are fishing for Rockfish and hook a salmon, do you have to release it because hooks aren't barbed?

Of course you have to release it, and it may not just be the barbed hooks - there is a specific configuration of circle hooks that you MUST use if you're using bait for salmon and NOT trolling.  That's as much as I'm elaborating on - this has been reviewed many times on here, and, not trying be a jerk, but you really need to know the rules or get with someone who does.  (a guide can be helpful!   :smt003)

I'm standing behind my already offered advice with specifics provided.   :smt001

...and don't forget your big net.

Thanks. I am not in the financial situation to pay for a guide. I read the regulations and wanted some human clarification to make sure I was right. I am very familiar with RF and ling regs because I have spent time learning on my own.

I am still figuring out how to post stuff on this website without doing it in the wrong place or asking the wrong questions. I only have an iPad and it will only let me search through 1 post at a time... I can't search all of NCKA for "salmon hooks", for instance.

Thanks for your insight. If I were to hook a salmon on barbed hooks before I would have released it - better safe than sorry, and I like following the rules.

Trying to get into some new types of fish without making any mistakes!
